Visiting Day At Josie’s Camp

by Karen on July 13, 2009

Josie in her cabin at camp

Ted and I took the Catalina Express over to Two Harbors and then a little boat up to Catalina Island Camps yesterday to visit Josie. She was at crafts when we got there and finished the necklace we were making, then showed us around camp. She’s having a great time. I think she grew again while she was gone and she’s very tan. Her favorite activities this year are archery, sailing, snorkeling, and the high ropes. She made it to the top of the climbing wall and was very proud of that achievement (she’s actually afraid of heights, so she’d never made it to the top of one before).

This year, she gets to sail the tiny sailboats either by herself or with one other camper in it with her. I think it’s the same kind of sailboat I sailed way back when at the day camp I went to as a kid. We saw a bunch of leopard sharks in the shallows by the beach and she said that when they went snorkeling they all walked out into the shallows and stood still so the sharks came close. They were actually larger than I expected, maybe 3 feet or so.

She’s going to go on a night snorkel on Friday, she didn’t go on the first one, but heard they had a great time and saw bioluminescence and an octopus, so she’s signing up. Their overnight hike is today, I think. She’s not really looking forward to it, but we’ll see how she feels afterwards. They did outdoor cooking for a breakfast and she helped make the scrambled eggs with milk and salt and pepper and she said they were delicious.

She misses home and her animals, but is doing great, didn’t get very homesick at all. We miss her and will be happy when she’s home, but are enjoying a little more WoW time these two weeks.

Disneyland Duathlon

July 11, 2009

Laura, Rachel and I participated in the Disneyland Duathlon in June. A duathlon is a run-bike-run, so we started on main street of Disneyland, ran around the park and out to the parking lot across the street, got on our bikes and road around the two parks twice, then ran through California Adventures. Lots of [...]

Josie set sail for camp on Monday. She’s off to Catalina, where she gets to sleep in a cabin on the beach, snorkel, and sail. They also have wake-boarding, archery, nature, crafts, and garden activities. We’re going to go visit her on Sunday, so we’ll have photos from the visit.

Ah, iPhone, how do I love thee, let me count the ways…

July 4, 2009

Ted and I each got iPhones last month (I know, I know, just before the new ones came out, but our other phones’ contracts were up, and even so, we were charged an extra $70 or so because we didn’t switch over right). We love them. I actually enjoy speaking on the phone with people [...]

My Boy Bin

July 1, 2009
Bin

Yes, I’m an altaholic and I try not to love any of my toons more than the others, but Bin has found a special place in my heart. I’ve been playing him for awhile. He’s a tauren druid, but he didn’t really click for me until I changed his name to Binturong (from Prewitt) and [...]
